FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How far is it to the beach?
Our homes are all within a very short walk to our private beach! 8 & 10 Wharf are about 600 foot walk (2-3 minute walk) and 37 Uncle Henry's is about 900 feet (3-4 minute walk). Need lunch or a glass of wine? Walk to the house & back in a snap. Ready for dinner, but can't bear to leave the beach? Walk up to the Popponesset Marketplace, grab some seafood, pizza, etc. and be back to the beach to watch the sunset in minutes.
Tell me about the beach itself.
Our beach is not on a bay, inlet, or river. We are south-facing ATLANTIC OCEANFRONT with views and protection of Martha's Vineyard. The water is generally calm, with no undertow, and VERY WARM - over 70 degrees F in summer, as we get a southern Atlantic water flow, unlike many areas on the Cape (Brr!) The beach and surf have soft sand and usually have few rocks. The beach is great for families. Kids meet and get to play with the same friends all week long! Not much surfing, but you can kayak and bring floats if you like.
What is there to do in the area besides the beach?
Oh boy - way too much to even mention here! See our Links Page or call us anytime for trip planning advice.
Do you provide Linens?
YES! While many owners don't as they don't want the hassle, we wouldn't think of having guests assemble and lug a houseful of linens to Cape Cod then have to make all the beds! Others simply give you the name of a local linens agency and ask you to coordinate with them. Then you get a bill for more than it costs to buy new one - not much of a vacation! We provide nice linens, towels, and beach towels and have a special process setup with our turnover team so all you have to do is strip the sheets and start the first load of wash when you leave. We take it from there.
How about Beach Towels, Chairs, Umbrellas and Carts?
Each house has a good supply of all of these. Feel free to bring your own favorite, but having all of these items makes travel easier and the experience more enjoyable for our guests. Just load up our beach cart and roll it down to the sand!
Are there any additional fees in addition to the Rental Fee?
We have a separate fee for Cleaning and Linens, which we do not mark up for a profit. 10 Wharf is $300, 8 Wharf is $400 and Uncle Henry's is $500. Additionally, we take a fully refundable $1000 Security Deposit for each home.
What does it take to book the reservation?
Once you tell me you are ready to book, I will confirm your reservation. We can then decide how you'd like to pay. We take half of the total amount at booking and the balance 30 days prior to arrival. We take either checks or PayPal. Using a credit card will add a 3% fee to the transaction. We then just need a written (email is fine) acceptance of our lease / rental agreement from you within 1 week or the reservation will be canceled.
What policies do you have in place?
Please see our lease document here for house rules and booking / cancellation policies
How do we get to the home, gain access, and get acclimated?
A month prior to your stay we will take the second half of the total fees. Once fully paid, we will email you a welcome package with lockbox combination, beach pass, directions, map, and orientation information
What special steps have you taken as a result of the Covid-19 Coronavirus?
As the Coronavirus pandemic recedes, we understand that guests have new needs and different concerns than in past years.
Therefore, we have taken these additional steps starting in the 2020 season:
-
Thoroughly disinfecting per CDC’s General Recommendations for Routine Cleaning and Disinfection of Households, once the home has been fully cleaned, with a completed checklist left for the guest. We are also offering a la carte cleaning and disinfection services as an option.
-
While grocery deliveries via Stop & Shop Peapod are available in town, we are also offering an option for a custom, fully stocked kitchen, onsite chefs, and clambakes onsite at our homes. Dozens of great restaurants in the area, such as Siena, Wicked, Estia and Blue are offering pickup and/or delivery by contacting them directly. Here is the current list.
-
We know there are many families that are together, working and schooling remotely, that would like to get a welcome change in scenery, while social-distancing in a more remote, yet comfortable space. Between May and Late June, we are offering flexible stays and checkin/checkout dates, along with long-term special rates.
-
Knowing that more guests will travel via cars in smaller groups this year, we are allowing 8&10 Wharf Ave homes to be rented separately or together, including summer. Normally in summer, we only rent them together for larger family reunions.
